STRAINER APPLICATIONS
Placed in front of measuring equipment to protect sensitive valves, pumps, aggregates and similar plant components under consideration of the material resistance. Typical applications include:
- Thermal power plant
- Captive power plant
- Hydro power plant
- Gas based power plant
- Nuclear power plant
DIFFERENT TYPES OF STRAINERS
There are two types of strainers, basket and Y-type.
Y-type
A Y strainer is typically used when there are small amounts of material and particles to be collected, and it must be placed facing the downward flow. For automatic cleaning, Y strainers can come with a blow-off connection.
Y strainers have a more significant pressure drop with liquids and a lower pressure drop with gases.

Basket type
Basket type strainers come in two types, single and double.
A single basket (simplex strainer) is used when the flow or process can be stopped for a short period.
A double basket (duplex strainer) is used when the flow or process cannot be stopped and must continue to flow.
